Family Friendly Summer Events in Leeds
The summer break is just around the corner and with it a load of exciting new events, activities and attractions will be coming to Leeds and Yorkshire. We thought we’d put together a list of some of the family friendly things to do that we’re most exited for!
Rory’s Saturday Club – Leeds City Museum
The museum is an obvious first stop for those looking for some child friendly fun in the city centre. They have much more to offer than their permanent exhibitions. Events run all summer ranging from special exhibitions to interactive games and educational events. Rory’s Saturday club runs at the Museum every single Saturday morning from 11am until 12.15pm. You’ll be joined by Rory, the Leeds City museum tiger, for a series of museum-themed arts and crafts activities. The museum even hosts an under 5s session, Tiny Tigers, on Friday mornings from 10am until 11.45pm.
The Tetley Weekender – The Tetley
For a full weekend of fun you might want to head over to the Tetley on the 29th and 30th of June for their annual micro-festival, The Tetley Weekender! Their family friendly festival takes inspiration from their current exhibitions with activities for the whole family. The event runs inside the Tetley and in their massive outdoor space, so cross your fingers for some sun and expect lots of creative crafts, messy making, face-painting, artist workshops and more.
This hidden gem is located just around the corner from the Royal Armouries, but it definitely sees much less footfall. The centre stores and preserves over a million intriguing objects, from textiles and furniture, to taxidermy and meteorites, there is something for everyone. Unlike the City Museum, the Discovery Centre isn’t open to the public without a prior booking, however, every Thursday they run store tours at 11am and 2pm. The tours are a perfect opportunity to see some of the most interesting artefacts and to learn about some of the stories behind them.
Child-Friendly Leeds Live – Millenium Square
Yet another festival on our list, Child-Friendly Leeds Live will be coming to Millennium Square on August the 8th and will run as two separate, almost identical three-hour sessions, the first starting at 10am and the second at 2pm. The kid focused festival will be headlined by CBeebies star Andy Day and his band ‘Andy and the Odd Socks’ and will also feature a talent show, arts and crafts activities, sports, sensory play areas and more.
Professor Humboldt’s Chamber of Time – The Merrion Centre
This summer the Merrion Centre will host the UKs newest and most thrilling family attractions: Professor Humboldt’s Chamber of Time. Running from the 13th of July to the 1st of September, The Chamber of Time is a 45 minute magical experience that will whisk visitors through 5,000 years of British history with a team of professional actors and state of the art special effects. The perfect family friendly activity for those wanting a truly unique yet educational experience.
